Milton Activities – By Quincy

Milton offers dozens of extracurricular activities. There are countless political, artistic, and academic clubs. Some clubs are casual, while others are competitive. Some require hours of commitment a week, others only 30 minutes. One of them, however, seems to fall in between all of those categories: the Debate Team. Debate is done in a parliamentary format, with two teams of two going head to head against each other. There is no research required (although a knowledge of current events doesn’t hurt), as topics are given on the spot, and the teams only have ten minutes...

Winter Dance Concert – By Sophie

During the winter season, a group of students and faculty prepare for the much-anticipated annual Winter Dance Concert. For four months, students and faculty choreograph and teach dances to their dancers in preparation for three nights of performances. This year, the styles of dance ranged from the usual contemporary and hip hop styles to cultural dances, such as African, Indian and Latin. The diversity of dancing styles is something that Milton’s students bring to the Dance Concert, because students take the initiative to become choreographers for the concert. Dance...
Swim and Dive Team at Milton By Jessica

Swim and Dive Team at Milton By Jessica

Although Milton does not have a pool on campus, we do have a thriving swim and dive team. We take a bus to the UMass Boston pool everyday, which is just 15 minutes away from campus.  This year, the boys’ team won the Independent School League for the fourth year and the girls’ team won for the second year. We definitely pride ourselves on having such a competent team. The swim and dive team is a close group of about 40 students who love being active and in the pool. Although we often complain about jumping into the cold water or practicing until dinner time, these...

Dorm Dodgeball, By Ranim

The annual dodge ball competition between dorms is a long-standing tradition at Milton Academy. Dorms are not just places to live in, but they are also every boarder’s home away from home and dorm dodge ball is a wonderful way for dorm mates to connect and get closer as the year goes on. Dorm dodge ball will always be one of my favorite memories at Milton. Every year is really intense and fun; some boarders wear eye black, put on their game faces, and others sport mismatching, colorful outfits. Playing dodgeball after a long day of classes is the perfect way to relieve...

The Milton Community, By Austin

The community at Milton Academy is the single most defining aspect of the School. When I heard that word at freshman orientation, I honestly did not know what “community” really meant. But when I heard our Head of School, Mr. Todd Bland, first speak about it, I realized that community at Milton goes way past what you could ever imagine. I see it as having three levels. The first level is with your class and with the Upper School student body as a whole. This community is small, only about 750 people strong, but tightly woven so you seldom see a face you don’t...

Milton Academy Weekend Events: By Charli...

When I came to Milton, the first thing I noticed is there is so much to do. Whether sports, clubs, assemblies, or even just hanging out with friends in the Student Center, there is always something going on. When the school week comes to an end, Milton becomes a place where I spend practically my entire weekend. Milton’s athletic events are always fun, whether you’re playing in them or just going to a game to cheer on your classmates. Plays and performances are great as well–the student-led Dance Concert is one of the biggest events of the year. There is also the...

Home Work at Milton By: Gabrielle

Given that Milton Academy is an intensive academic prep school, it might not come as a surprise that Milton Academy faculty give their students a decent amount of homework. Students can be found scattered throughout campus during the school day, after school, and even late at night typing up essays, huddled together working on a problem set, or in the Arts and Media Center (AMC) finishing up a self-portrait. Everyone has their own favorite study spot on campus and the diversity of these places reflects how much the school embraces different learning styles, types of...

Milton Academy Track and Field By Katie

All the snow has melted from campus and spring athletes are enjoying the beginning of their seasons. Track and field, in particular, is looking forward to an impressive season. The boys were undefeated in the ISL last year, and with many returning athletes as well as new faces, both the boys’ and girls’ teams are hoping for the 2016 season to be an impressive one.  The coaching staff remains the same for the distance crew as well as the throwers. The team just hired a new head coach, Coach Carbone, who will be leading the sprinters and jumpers this season. With the...

The Measure and The Paper: By Harry

Every Friday after my second period class, I rush to the Student Center to make sure I can grab a copy of two of Milton’s many student run publications, The Miton Measure, and The Milton Paper. These publications, one published weekly, the other bi-weekly, provide students with information about the school, including a column written by one of the head monitors about the past week, and many articles about Milton’s many sports teams. All the articles are written and edited by students from all grades and contain a variety of opinions and ideas. You can find stories...
Spring Break Lacrosse By: Sara

Spring Break Lacrosse By: Sara

During a week of spring break, our lacrosse, baseball, softball, and sailing teams traveled to Florida for a week of sports and fun in the sun. The girls’ lacrosse team spent the week practicing together and playing in games, as well as experiencing all of what Florida has to offer. Besides lacrosse, we went to the beach, hung out at the pool, supported the boys at their lacrosse game, jumped at a trampoline park, played Minute to Win it, and we even went to the aquarium! Although the goal of the trip was to get ready for lacrosse season, the trip felt like a fun...

Living at Milton: A Unique Boarding Expe...

The eight dorms that make up Milton Academy’s boarding community at Hathaway, Goodwin, Forbes, Robbins, Wolcott, Hallowell, Norris, and Millet. Each of our dorms houses about 40 students, along with a handful of teachers, other faculty members, and their pets. Our boarding community is organized to cultivate long-lasting bonds and friendships. Each dorm contains students from all four years, providing new freshmen with knowledgeable juniors and seniors as mentors. So during your first few months at Milton, that stroll through the upperclassman section in the Student...

Recess By: Ashleigh

One of my favorite times of the day at Milton Academy is only 15 minutes long from 10:00 to 10:15 a.m. This time is recess. Many high schools and middle schools don’t have recess and although our recess is not playing on swings and running around outside, our high school recess is just as fun. You can find almost the whole Upper School congregated in the Student Center talking and eating breakfast sandwiches from the snack bar. On Fridays, there is music playing and everyone is singing and dancing. Upperclassmen can be seen hanging over the balcony and underclassmen are...
