The Measure and The Paper: By Harry

Every Friday after my second period class, I rush to the Student Center to make sure I can grab a copy of two of Milton’s many student run publications, The Miton Measure, and The Milton Paper. These publications, one published weekly, the other bi-weekly, provide students with information about the school, including a column written by one of the head monitors about the past week, and many articles about Milton’s many sports teams. All the articles are written and edited by students from all grades and contain a variety of opinions and ideas. You can find stories about national and international issues, pieces about the conflicts in Syria and Iraq, the presidential election, or you can read about the newest musical releases and TV shows. Both newspapers have humor sections, which I make sure to read first. It is great to read an article discussing a pressing issue only to look at the writer and realize that your friend or classmate wrote it. Student-run publications are a great way to keep up to date on all kinds of issues and topics and start engaging discussion during our Friday recess period.
