A couple of times a year, when the winter weather looks especially dicey, the Milton Academy campus shut down on account of a snow day. Each student waits not-so-patiently, whether it be at home or in their dorm, to get the automated call telling us that we do not have to go to school the next day. Milton Academy is full of spirit around the holidays! Even though there are only 13 days between Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks, the students are busy with traditions and festivities. The Habitat for Humanity student group is raising money for those who were affected by the South Carolina floods. They are selling candy canes that Milton students can purchase and address to their friends with attached messages. The sale is a great way to spread awareness and holiday cheer throughout campus. Holiday Dorm Traditions

The short stretch between Thanksgiving break and Holiday break is my favorite even with a crammed workload, tight and busy schedule, and dark and cold weather. When I returned to campus, I was greeted with a festively decorated dorm, complete with lights, stockings, and even a tree. The first night back, the new students make their personalized stockings to hang on the wall, in which the “secret Santa” gifts are place. Pep Rally

As the fall sports seasons come to an end, the school comes together to get ready for games against our rival school, Nobles and Greenough School. The week that leads up to Pep Rally is spirit week. Each day, Upper School students dress up in different outfits for the different days of the week to prepare for the big weekend of games. This year, Monday was Groutfit Day, a grey sweatshirt with grey sweatpants. Tuesday was Twin Day, so different pairs of students wear the same outfits. Milton Ski Team

As the fall sports season enters the last few weeks, most Milton students are dreading the cold Boston winter that looms ahead. However, one group of students in particular cannot wait for the first snowflakes to fall. Those students, myself included, are members of the Milton downhill Ski Racing Team.  The ski team is tight-knit group of kids who come together in their mutual love of cold weather, snow and skiing. Friday Night Lights

On a recent Friday, Milton had its annual under-the-lights football game against St. Sebastian’s. Although the game was away this year, an impressive amount of fans, including myself, went to Needham to support our team. Students drove over with friends and there was a fan bus for boarders and anyone else who needed a ride. Milton students from every grade stood together in the end zone with homemade signs, faces painted orange and blue, and a whole lot of school spirit. Pool lot soccer

Pool lot soccer is a sport known by few, but loved by all who partake. The end of my sophomore and entire junior year are full of great memories, but none as amazing as playing pool lot soccer. As an underclassman you are doomed to the bad parking spaces located a grueling five-minute walk away. However, my friends and I turned this apparent tragedy into a year-long competition. The idea behind the sport was to delay the start of the school day just for 15 minutes and partake in a rousing game of soccer before we went to morning assembly. Dorm Traditions

  Boarding students will tell you that the boarding experience is incredibly rewarding and one reason is because each dorm has its own traditions. A home away from home, your dorm is an environment that is conducive to making incredible friends and having fun! As the New England weather slowly transitions from summer to autumn, some of my favorite boarder traditions begin. SAA Starts the Year off Strong

The Student Activities Association (SAA) is a large presence here on the Milton campus. This group of students along with faculty member, Ms. Reiser, plans the weekend events that take place on campus. And this year, they’re off to a great start.
