Game Day with the Wolfpack

Since sophomore year, I have played on the girls’ varsity soccer team, nicknamed the Wolfpack.  Even though soccer is not my main extracurricular activity, it has been an influential experience at Milton because it introduced me to some of my closest friends and gave me the opportunity to relax and have fun for two hours a day.  The Wolfpack distinguishes itself from other teams on campus through its traditions, ranging from team dinners the night before big games to dressing up in outrageous costumes during practice the day before Swap-It dance.  Game days (Wednesdays and Saturdays) are the best days as we spend a large part of the day psyching ourselves up for tipoff.  The Wolfpack arrives on campus in matching outfits.  While some days we dress nicely in “chapel dress,” we are also known to wear crazy costumes ranging from onesies to cowgirls.  After a day of classes, I usually grab a quick lunch in Forbes with some of my teammates and head down to the locker room.  These facilities, often overlooked by visitors, are one of my favorite places on campus. Because each team gets a private locker room, they foster an incredible sense of community and are a great place to hang out with teammates.  Once the entire team arrives, each girl on the team shares her personal and team goals for the game. We often have a team dance party in the locker room to get our energy up before Coach Kahn comes in to review last minute scouting and strategy.  After a final pep talk from our captains, we walk to the field and begin warm-ups.  I could not ask for a closer, more supportive team and will definitely miss the Wolfpack when I leave for college next year.
