Chamber Orchestra and Chorus Trips By Julia

Every two years, the Milton chamber orchestra and chamber chorus travel during spring break to perform in a new setting for an unfamiliar audience, and to experience and learn about the culture of a different country.  As a member of the chamber orchestra, I went on the chamber orchestra and chorus trip to Northern Ireland and Ireland last March.  On this tour, we had several performances in different cities including Belfast and Dublin.  Performing in a space besides the King Theater was a new experience, and we got to present pieces of music that we worked on during class periods since the beginning of the school year. Performing this music in Ireland was an exciting way to present our work.  Also, these performances took place in beautiful old cathedrals that we explored before our concerts; the trip was rewarding because we both played music and learned about Ireland’s history. We also had a tour guide who brought us to destinations across Ireland, including the Titanic Museum, old mansions with elegant gardens, stores where we could purchase hand-knit Irish wool sweaters, and walking routes along Ireland’s rocky coasts.  At all of these locations, the group bonded as we walked along the Cliffs of Moher or roamed through the streets of Galway in the almost constant rain.  The Milton chamber orchestra and chorus trips are wonderful opportunities to perform music and to experience other countries with friends.
