Boarder vs. Day Student By Jessica

As a boarder in Hathaway my freshman year, and a day student my sophomore and junior year, several people have asked me which Milton experience I like better. Living in Hathaway freshman year was an amazing experience. I loved every aspect of it, whether it was eating dinner together as a dorm, sleeping in later, or having 40 potential sisters and several close dorm parents. Leaving the dorm after my freshman year was one of the hardest things I have done during my time at Milton; however, I have grown accustomed to and greatly appreciate being a day student. Being either a boarder or day student has both its pros and cons. As a boarder, there are lights out, two-hour study halls every night, blue cards, and other restrictions, yet the sense of community and lifelong bonds are what make being a boarding student so wonderful. As a day student, the constant shuttling back and forth, waking up early, and the inability to go to back to the dorm during the day are all detriments; the benefits, however, include a larger dose of freedom, sleeping in your own bed every night, and having an unlimited supply of food. Although significantly different, boarder life and day student life are equally balanced. Together, both communities help create a unique high school experience.
