The Book Signing By Hannah

Milton is a place full of tradition, both old and new. Among these traditions, the annual new student book signing is one of the most prominent, and represents that continuation of Milton’s tradition, from year to year, and generation to generation. I remember my first real day as a student at Milton in September of my freshmen year. Mr. Ball commenced the academic year, we went to our first classes, and then one by one every new freshman signed, “The Book.” In the chapel, this Book (there have been a few over the years) has been signed by every Milton student. This tradition, while special in its own right, also exemplifies the community as a whole. I know, for me, it was very cool to sign the same book (essentially) that my dad had signed 30 years earlier. Milton evolves, renews itself, casts off the old in favor of the new, and yet the book represents continuity across time. This tradition is just one example of many that make Milton such a unique place to go to school.
