Milton Academy Speakers By Annabelle

Milton Academy often invites speakers from various cultures, backgrounds, and professions to speak to educate, entertain, and enlighten the community. Student clubs and organizations also bring speakers to campus as well. These student-run organizations exist to enrich the academic experience of the Milton community. Recently, the Latino Association and the English department combined their efforts to bring renowned author Junot Diaz on campus. With his witty humor and provocative stage presence, he seized the attention of students and faculty members alike. He did not speak at the audience; instead, he conducted a very open, honest, and uncomfortable dialogue about race, gender, culture, education and politics. He called sexism, patriarchy, racism, and genocide major concerns as an activist and a writer.  By the end of the assembly, no one could deny sheer force of his words. Before he left, he held a Q&A for those who wanted to have a smaller and more intense conversation about societal pressures and expectations.
