Springtime By: Emma

As another long New England winter finally comes to an end, I begin to notice the sun shining brighter and the birds chirping louder, singing the promise of warmer weather soon to come. Spring is one of my favorite seasons at Milton because the whole school migrates outside, taking advantage of the lovely weather. For instance, now that all the snow has melted, many students eat lunch outside on the quad, and sometimes the whole kitchen even comes outside to host a delicious backyard-style barbeque. Additionally, as some students begin to feel antsy at being kept inside all day, many teachers take advantage of the beautiful sunshine by hosting class outside. For example, for my English course, titled “Man & the Natural World,” our class ventures outside as often as possible in order to utilize nature as a valuable resource, and in doing so, we often find that we gain even more from our subject matter.

Furthermore, many dorm traditions take place in the spring, such as a dorm softball tournament, in which all of the students in each dorm form a softball team and compete against the other dorms in the tournament, prompting an abundance of dorm pride and the bonding that inevitably follows. For Easter, my dorm, Millet House, has a tradition in which the dorm splits up into smaller groups and competes against each other in a giant, nighttime Easter egg hunt. However, instead of simply searching for eggs, we must also solve riddles to gain clues, all while scrambling through the darkness with our teams. Whether during free time, in class or in the dorms, Milton students always have more than just summer vacation to look forward to throughout the spring season.
