Beyond Campus, Enticing Options

Each year, many students take advantage of Milton’s varied and exciting off-campus programs—from the farms of Vermont to the urban classrooms of New York City, from Madrid, Spain to Rennes, France.

The modern languages department, in collaboration with School Year Abroad, runs programs through which students may choose to travel and learn for six weeks, a semester, or a year, expanding their worldview, experiencing life in another culture, testing and furthering language skills, and making life-long friends. The deans’ office coordinates semester opportunities at the Mountain School in Vermont, City Term in New York City, and the Chewonki Maine Coast Semester program.

Rod Skinner, director of college counseling, says that experiences like these “give students what colleges call texture, a distinctiveness that can serve them well—not only because colleges see a student who is eager and willing to do something a bit out of the ordinary, but also because students return from the experience with a deeper, broader sense of themselves.”
