Be a Part of the Host Family Program

Milton’s Host Family Program helps new boarding students transition to campus life by providing a “home away from home,” and offering additional connection and support. While the program is particularly helpful to international students, it also serves students coming to Milton from other parts of the U.S. Milton’s host families, often the family of a day student or nearby boarding student, help make that transition, especially in the initial years, easier. This year, we also welcome alumni and the parents of former students as host families. The support our host families provide may be as simple as a plate of cookies or an invitation to spend a holiday or weekend with the family off campus. The program is flexible, based on a student’s need and what a particular family is able to provide. The program is a wonderful opportunity to share in the diverse community of the School, and your involvement can help establish new and enriching relationships.

As life at Milton becomes more familiar, and students develop their own connections, they may choose to end their formal host family pairing. Current host families for a student moving from Class III to Class II may continue with their student host, or they may request to be assigned to an incoming boarding student.

We do our best to match all students who request a host family; however, students coming from further away, Class IV students, and new Class III students have priority. We are in particular need of families interested in providing a local spot for international students needing housing over the Thanksgiving holiday.

All families applying to host students must submit a completed CORI form for each adult over the age of 18 who lives in the host family home. This policy complies with Massachusetts state law and is for the protection of all parties involved. You may download the CORI form here.

If you are the parent of a boarding student and are interested in connecting your child with a local host family, please submit your completed application to Tasha Otenti at tasha_otenti@milton.edu, or
