Many Students Choose to Serve

The Community Service Program launched the school year with over 200 student volunteers making weekly commitments at 27 different service sites. Many students are working in Boston and Milton public schools, or on campus in the Lower School and Children’s Center. Other organizations include the Milton Animal Shelter, Boston Home for Adults with Multiple Sclerosis, preschools in Randolph and Mattapan, the Special Olympics, and various after-school tutoring programs.

This is the last call for anyone interested in participating in the annual spring break service trip to Belize. Participants will work at an island school, building new classroom spaces, tutoring, and sharing cultural traditions with local youth. Parents of student volunteers, or anyone interested in more information, should attend a meeting this Saturday, October 18, from 11:30 to 12 in Straus Library. Deposits are due October 31. If you cannot attend the meeting, but would like more information, please email Heather Sugrue at heather_sugrue@milton.edu.

The holidays are just around the corner and the Community Service Program is gearing up for the holiday gift drive for children at the Brookview House. Students can participate by selecting a child’s gift request and bringing the unwrapped gift into school. Starting the week of November 17, the Community Service Board will also be raising funds for holiday food baskets for 20 families supported by the Department of Children and Families. Parents interested in making monetary donations for this cause can email Heather Sugrue (heather_sugrue@milton.edu) or Janice Brea (janice_brea@milton.edu).
