Community Service: The Season of Giving

The Community Service Board has been working hard over the past weeks, preparing for the holiday season. Every year, Milton students and adults commit to raising money and buying holiday gifts for local children and families in need, through nonprofit organizations and the Department of Children and Families. This year, students, faculty and staff purchased 30 coats for children of the Brookview House. Students give children their gifts at the Brookview House holiday party, hosted on the Saturday before winter break. At this fun and festive event, children participate in arts and crafts and enjoy performances by Milton students. Performances include musicians, magicians, singers, and step dancers.

The Community Service Board also partners with the Department of Children and Families to purchase “wish list” gifts for 30 children. Advisor groups and families sponsor a child, making his or her holiday a little brighter. Finally, students raise over $1,000 to create food baskets for families, which include potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce. Milton’s “little elves” work tirelessly in the weeks leading up to break to ensure that we have raised enough money to purchase gifts and supplies in time for the holidays. Students put their hearts into this worthwhile project, knowing the important difference they are making for many people at this time of year.
