Gopie: As you first walk into Mr. Bartley's you are welcomed with the shop's great history. You can possibly sit where Mr. Bartley's receives a lot of hype but I don't think the burger lived up to the hype. Mr. Bartley's has over 30 burger combinations catering to everyone's taste. I ordered an unoriginal bacon cheeseburger with tomatoes and lettuce for $9. I ordered a medium-well burger but the burger was very well done and not juicy. The burger was also small and dry and felt crumbly as you chew. The burger was held together with a sesame bun that was a little too big for the burger. The last bites were all bun, tomato, and lettuce. The french fries were very good, crispy but soft. After the meal, I was still hungry the burger and fries were not filling. I'd say Mr. Bartley's receives most of its recognition from its creativity and delicious frappes.
Chun: The first thing about Mr. Bartleys: use the T, don't drive. Our group wasted nearly an hour trying to find parking for this place. Mr. Bartley's is smacked in the middle of Harvard Square, a major tourist attraction. When our group entered the restaurant, we weren't sure whether we should wait to be seated or just sit down. Soon enough, however, a waitress, wearing a "You Can't Beat Our Meat" t-shirt, greeted us and plopped us down on a long table with other customers. We sat on lawn chairs, which fit the chilled vibe of the restaurant but didn't make for comfortable seating. The walls are plastered with hundreds of photos, signs, clothing and politically-charged posters. The restaurant has a laidback environment which makes it a popular place for college students to eat.
The menu was filled with more than thirty different types of burgers. I ordered the Health Connector (fried egg, bacon and cheese). When it came out, the burger looked absolutely delicious: thick patty, toasted buns, great looking fried egg and glistening bacon. When I took a bite, however, I was a bit disappointed. Everything tasted okay but not amazingly delicious. The patty was okay albeit a bit dry, the bacon was okay and the bun was okay. I really expected more from one of the best burger joints in America according to the Boston Globe and Wall Street Journal. The fries were a bit better but still not amazing. On top of that, the burger and fries weren't even that filling; we had to get Dunkin' Donuts on the way home to fill our stomachs. Overall, I'd say if you want a creative, decent burger and are willing to pay extra for that, eat at Mr. Bartley's. Otherwise, you're better off with a different burger joint.
Austin: Bartleys created one of the best burgers I have ever had. After looking at the menu which had dozens of creative burger choices, I decided to try out the Minecraft burger, a burger topped with mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce. The burger came in 15 minutes with a thick burger patty and sauce oozing out. This burger was by no means a clean eat, but that is to be expected with Bartley's creative masterpieces. The bun was lightly toasted; the burger was cooked very well, and the fries were delicious too. The fries were hot, crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. Not only was the dinner great, but the dessert is something to rave about as well. The Chocolate Malt Shake tasted like it had come from an established ice cream parlor. It was thick, chocolatey, and the price was decent as well. As for the atmosphere, the restaurant is small, and they try to fit as many people in there as possible. There are booths around the perimeter and one long table in the middle. Although the restaurant was loud and crowded, it was a nice lively college atmosphere with sports pictures covering the walls and tvs in the corners. Out of all of the restaurants that we visited, Bartley's was the best for food and experience.
