If you haven’t heard, the entire northeast got pounded with a massive blizzard over this past weekend. Here in Milton we got over two feet of snow and had two unplanned days off from school. When we went to bed Thursday, the quad was empty, but when we finally came out after the storm on Saturday morning, let’s just say that you were not going outside without boots on. I woke up sometime around ten on Saturday and some of my dorm-mates in Forbes House and I decided to help the dorm parents dig out their cars that were plowed in. The twenty of us that were out there along with the help of a few faculty members, occasionally a snow plow, and once a massive backhoe (I think it cleared more snow than everything else combined!), were able to free about ten faculty cars and clear a good amount of walkway from under what seemed like a mountain of snow. Turned out that while a group of us were shoveling for free, a few other people had taken the initiative to walk around the neighborhood attempting to actually make some money shoveling driveways (They were not successful). I can’t say shoveling is the most enjoyable experience I have had at Milton, but after a while it became a fun bonding experience. With occasional snowball fights mixed in, we managed to get all the cars out pretty quickly and got a pretty good workout in at the same time. Check out a picture of our snow shoveling operation below.

After football practice on Friday, the entire football team, as we always do, went out to Wendy’s. Fast food is not the ideal pre-game meal, but the Milton football team has been going every week for something like twenty years. After coming back from Wendy’s I went back to my dorm, Forbes House, and just relaxed and watched TV. A few of us in the dorm have become addicted to a show on Discovery Channel called Gold Rush where a group of guys decide to go to Alaska and mine for gold without any experience, so we flipped between that and the UConn- Syracuse Football game. After Check-in, I along with four other guys continued on our quest to watch the entire 11-hour long extended version of the Lord of the Rings, and then went to bed.

On Saturday I woke up, went to breakfast, and then needed to update the website for the Milton Measure (miltonmeasure.org), the official school newspaper. Next, I went to watch my friends play in the varsity boys and girls soccer games, and then it was time to get ready for our football game under the lights against Rivers. From the first kickoff we dominated on both sides of the ball, and ended up beating Rivers 38-15. Next up, Belmont Hill. This one is a must win!

On Sunday I decided to finally stop putting off writing college essays and to get ahead in some work for this upcoming week. At night, a few of us in the dorm decided to go into Boston to see the movie Argo. This was probably the best movie I have seen in a long time. It was about the 1980 Iranian hostage crisis and how the CIA got six US diplomats back home. I highly recommend it. On long weekends my dorm orders food for everyone so there was pizza and wings waiting for us when we got back. After stuffing my face, I finished watching Lord of the Rings, (it took us four weeks to finish!) and then went to sleep.

Monday was a lot more of the same. I worked some more on college essays, and had football practice but overall it was nice to have some downtime before the long stretch we have till Thanksgiving.
